Most fleets anchor maintenance to the calendar: every vehicle goes in every six months. This tidy-sounding approach has two costs. A vehicle doing 2,000 km a month gets serviced needlessly early, wasting money; one doing 12,000 km a month gets serviced late and risks a breakdown.
The right reference is kilometres — but self-reported odometer entries are unreliable. Mileage processed automatically from GPS data reflects each vehicle’s real usage: the system flags a vehicle approaching its 10,000 km threshold on its own, drops it into the maintenance agenda and notifies the person responsible.
When inspection, insurance and document dates live in the same agenda, "the inspection we forgot" stops being a category. Considering what a breakdown costs — towing, lost jobs, lost customers — maintenance planning is the fastest self-paying module of any fleet platform.
